N800 chips revealed: USB On The Go?

It's a big day for Nokia N800 discovery! Not only is the FM radio confirmed and functional, but it appears to have a USB On The Go controller as well! USB OTG is a USB protocol that allows devices to exchange information: For example, you can plug your USB camera into a USB OTG device to offload pictures and Email them directly out.

We have InternetTabletTalk forum member sdrman to thank for removing the shields from his N800's chips, scanning the board in high resolution, and Googling chip numbers. His post is here and his findings, so far, are as follows:

My Incomplete list of part lookups:
Part Label ----- Description
PJMI ----- tps65030 USB-OTG Power Manager 5v 100mA
TUSB6010 ------- USB-OTG Controller
TSC23031 ------- Related to TSC2301? Touch Screen Controller
ST2378E ------ Level Translator
TEA5761UK ------ FM Stereo receiver
STLC4550 ----- Wireless Lan
csr 41814 ------- Bluetooth
Excellent work, sdrman!

In other good news, Marcelo reports that the next Canola release (functional on the N800) is very, very close. I'm holding my breath here - but turning a little purple!

In my last bit of news, I read through a post on planet.maemo.org that there are three job openings on the maemo team. I sent in a resume for the first of them: Maemo evangelist/Documentation manager. I'd have to give up ultramobilegeek.com (conflict of interest) and move to Finland, but I am qualified for that job and I can't think of any other work I'd rather do. I also have to wonder if you, my readers, would still trust me if I said something either rocks or sucks if my paychecks come from Nokia. Wish me luck!

Poking aroudn the kernel reveals that the OTG driver hasn't yet been implemented and that switching modes is done automatically by the type of cable used.

Hi ThoughtFix,

the tear down of N800 main board is interesting. By the way, do you have any idea where is the location of TI OMAP2420 package? I can't find it in the mainboard, suprising.
