Yahoo, MSN, AIM, ICQ and more on the N800

A lot of people ask me how to chat with their Yahoo, AIM, MSN, ICQ, and other buddies with the N800. The answer is simple: Pidgin Messenger. Pidgin used to be GAIM but now has improved, grown, and is quite functional. No webcam and voice calls yet, but I hope that's in the roadmap.

Download it at their Garage page.

There is also Gizmo (http:www.gizmoproject.com/). It supports VoIP calls to Yahoo/MSN etc as well as offering similar functionality to Skype, but uses open standards.

Thanks, I'll see if the new update that came out for Pidgin fixes my issue.

anybody know why pidgin worked for a day (w/jabber-gtalk & aim) then stopped? i took your advice and was happy- then had my whole system slow down. decided to uninstall to see if that helped ... it stopped the slowdown (ex. of 'slowdown', app manager took minutes to refresh each time i uninstalled a pidgn component), but reinstalling was unsuccessful (loading pidgin--even an older vs.--resulted in mesg: "internal error, etc"). my system is latest o.s.. what's up?

I'd much rather use the built-in Jabber client for IM than Pidgin. Pidgin STILL after all these years does not support showing status messages in the buddy list, whereas even the rtcomm beta supports it.

Install the rtcomm beta and use Jabber and the jabber server's gateways to AIM, MSN and whatever. No need to install anything else, no need to run any programs, more integrated into the tablet and just works better.

This is off subject, but... I am excited to share the information. I just purchased my n800 2days ago, brand new... from Circuit City for $323.99. By far the best "NEW" price I have seen so far. Final price was $360.83 after taxed and 2nd Day shipping. So... yeah. That's my contribution.

10% off all orders over $199 at Circuit City

There is built-in rtcom software update pack (known as rtcom beta) which allows to use SIP as well as Google Talk VoIP.Compared to Gizmo, it is lightweight, works quickly and integrated with the system. And it does not enforces me to have (useless) primary account on Gizmo's service.I'm really preferring another SIP provider which does provides FREE local calls to landlines and cellphones here and only charges small fee when you're calling distant landline\cellular phones.
