Constructive Criticism

I am headed out the door, but wanted to make a quick post in response to some constructive criticism I got in my last post about my geek bag:

man, you´re so cool...

I don´t know why but I am really not interested in your geek-show-off...

In the beginning I liked all your "tutorials" and stuff like comparisons you did between the N770 and N800... This was stuff that matters!

But you start to post too post too much show-off stuff which is of no real interest for others!
The same with you car-sho-off with all your cool devices like the iPod touch, your 2 internet tablets and so on...

So, do not take this as an personal attack, but to "improve" your next posts please...

kkpaul is right.
I posted this because some people asked what I am bringing. It's not a show-off type thing - just a catalog of what I will use to travel, blog the event and to interact with others. The 770 is there because so few people outside the early adopters are aware of it and they are curious about the tablet roots.

Many of the showy posts are "proof of concept" experiments to bring more attention to the abilities of this platform. They get popular with people outside my normal reader base. Hopefully those people get pulled in to know more about these. That's a good thing.

Once the news settles down on the next tablet, I promise to get back to HOWTO and reviews. I realize I HAVE strayed from my roots and look forward to getting back to that. In the meantime, hope you are following Neon Cherry's "Tablet School" blog for tips on getting the most out of your tablet.

Bear with me until the next tablet is launched - then I'll go back to real world use-case scenarios.

Never be ashamed of your love of tech. I'm exactly the same. If I go anywhere I have a bag full of gadgets.

Just worry about getting us the scoop on the N810 :)

Bullshit. Video of gadgets in car made me open my eyes wide and look at N800/770 abilities from different POV and on photo of gadget bag i finally had opportunity to compare size of UMPC to N800. If some envious people don't extract useful info from your posts and call size comparison photos "show off" - it's their own problem.

You keep posting, i keep your blog in RSS reader. Deal?

The car picture was awesome, please keep posting stuff like that!

I don't think kpaul is right. There will always be lulls in between Big News events, and filling those with the variety of posts you've offered in that period has been very entertaining. If it was too much How-To that might turn off other segments of your audience.

Besides, kpaul's complaint was not exactly what I'd call constructive criticism. It was more of a rant.

Don't sweat it, Daniel. You're doing fine as is.

I agree with that lot above, keep posting your great mix of stuff, if someone's paying for what you write they can dictate what it should be, otherwise sod 'em.

(Oh, and "do not take this as a personal attack"? That's right up there with "with all due respect")

Back to reloading pages every 5 seconds now to see if there's any news on the N810...

It's not showing off, and it is interesting, keep up the good work!

It's hard to post "stuff that matters" all the time. Stuff that doesn't serves a useful purpose in providing a bit of light relief and in keeping the blog going when you don't have the time, energy or inspiration to write something more substantial. Given your recent discoveries on the subject of the N810, you clearly don't have anything to apologise for if you occasionally post something that some readers regard as a filler.

Criticism is always a unique thing. People like to give it, but at the end of the day you can only take what other people say and then use those words to evaluate your performance. If they don't measure up in your eyes, then the criticism is useless.

That being said, I personally enjoy a little lighter posts from time to time. I read those just as often as the hard core technical posts, and to be honest it shows the flexibility of the writer of the blog.

Every news agency has an rss feed. I know what to expect day in and day out from them, and typically don't read 1/2 the posts from them because I already know what it is. Individuals that have a variety of posts usually grab my attention for longer and keep me coming back to check on new posts. :)

Love all the posts. Keep up the great work. I'm looking foreword to your posts on *hopefully* the new internet tablet. I'm holding off buying an 800 until I see if there is a new model. If the new model won't be out until mid 08, then I'm buying an 800 soon. If not, then a little more patience won't kill me. :)

I find your posts about what you're carrying quite informative. Please don't be dissuaded from posting them. Your gadget bag posts are constructive and instructive. (I see you discovered the QuikPod, by the way. Very cool device.) The post you did on the GPS was terrific.

Don't listen to the critics.
