Thanks to a tip from reader makoto13, I see that Amazon.com and Target recently both slashed the prices of the N800 (original MSRP $399) to US $279.99.
Good news for both prospective N800 buyers and those who were still unsure about the third tablet. For those of you who very recently purchased an N800 - check your store policy, receipt, and even credit card agreements to see if there is a price protection agreement. My Bank of America card has one. Yours may too.

The Target price drop helps to confirm thats its not just amazon doing random sell. It also allows all you hot deal fanactics to do your pricematching shenanigens.
Futhermore, one of the amazon comments also tells us that amazon ships updated firmware n800s
Remember that Amazon is no tax (for most) and free shipping :) Amazon Visa Card = 3% back
I can see two potential reasons for this move.
a) Apple's recent cut in the price of the Iphone to $399
b) Clearing the channel for the introduction of the N800 successor later this year.
Also, Buy.com's got it for $243.
I'll vote for clearing the channel. Same thing happened last time with 770/N800 transition.
I hope we see a similar drop here in the UK. I have an N800 but the wife wants one too.
Dang. Just bought mine on ebay forr 260. Well at least its less than some.
I wish we saw a price drop like that in australia :( considering they just introduced the n800 i doubt it
We are paying 460 USD here :\
amazon.at still lists it for 345 euros, which is about 488 US dollars. the price drop seems to be a U.S.-thing only...
Buy.com is now $233 + free shipping.
This price drop did it for me, I ordered the N800 from buy.com. I've been on the verge for a while... Although I will miss the hard cover of my 770. I fear that I won't want to go back to it for any reason after getting used to the 800.
That, or i'll void my warranty and try to cobble the N800 guts into the 770 case, sans camera. yeah... I wish I had the nerve and know-how to do that.
I think the price drop happened only in the US because in the US the Nokia brand is not as widely 'trusted' as here in Europe.
So they lowered the price to attract more customers.
now i just recently started considering this tablet, and what luck i stumbled upon here. usually, i would be afraid that a price drop like this would mean that something new is coming out with better features, but given that this is already an awesome device, i wouldn't even care if it did, compared to an ipod, where the newest one makes the old one a pile of dog crap in comparison (even more so)
Woohoo, my new N800 arrived today. Downloading the latest firmware and charging it up. I'm excited! I'll probably play around with more experimental stuff on the 770 now.
Buy.com has the N800 for 239.99$ with free shipping.
