Today's sad news: Sprint and Clearwire call off WiMAX

It's true. They couldn't work out the details and threw in the towel. I'm going to ping my contacts at Sprint and see what's up, but I'm none too happy. *sob* [phonescoop via gizmodo]

This is probably why this version of the tablet does not have wimax.

I can't wait until cell networks are just big ip networks, like wimax was suppose to be.

Of course, what is also interesting is that if an open wireless network exists (like Google and others have as a view of the wireless spectrum that the US gov is looking to "do something with", that Verizon and the other cell phone companies don't want to happen as THEY want to OWN this spectrum for themselves and are against any OPEN wireless network that all can share freely, as it free speech...), it such a FREE network exists, like it should, then a privately run and managed Closed WiMax network would have competition that it might not survive against. My guess is that these companies are taking a wait and see view for now, and building out smaller networks in areas where they still will be needed due to density issues and wireless bandwidth issues in high use areas (meaning that for a premium price, you can maybe get on their network, and have speed that you want). This is best done locally, and in selected markets.

My vote is that this new Free wireless network, and the spectrum now that is still under US gov control and is not being used, that this spectrum should be freed for the use of all, including poor students and school systems that would be able to best use it.

made up my mind before the decision NOT to wait for the Wimax version but a carrier independent version of the N810. Seemsa good decision now.

To ThoughtFix,

Please can you tell me of any good word processor applications for the Nokia N800?

Thank you

@Anony Word Processor: Check out one of the community forums like http://www.internettablettalk.com

There's lots of information about apps being developed & existing apps that should take care of your needs, plus a user base that has had lots of experience with the full tablet lineup. (I think AbiWord would be the best thing for you, though I don't know what's happening with development)

Cheers,
