The screen shot above helps confirm my desire to depart from the highly popular yet limited video sharing site. 104 videos and 1.2 million video views have succeeded in rising interest in the tablets and putting more money in YouTube's pockets. I am ready to move on and would like the option to make sure the videos are accompanied by their matching articles.
My major gripes with YouTube are spam and ignorant comments, flawed ranking systems, content theft, and the inability to hard-link a video to an article. Readers: What's your preferred method of viewing ThoughtFix videos?
- Flash on an alternate site like blip.tv
- Downloadable .mp4
- Streaming .mp4

Hello, You could try Veoh. I would like a streamable and downloadable option so I could watch it on my n800 on the go though. :)
I post all my video to blip instead of youtube.
I doubt I'm making any money, but having ads is pretty easy.
One word.

I recently started using vimeo.com as an alternative to YouTube. I've been really happy with it.
This is just stupid, Dan. Why the hell would you leave YouTube? 1.2 million views that can potentially go to your blog if you place links for it on the page? You'd be the most retarded person I know if you took your videos off, just because you want extra revenue from Google. Why not use TubeMogul.com and put ALL your videos on ALL the top video sites, and generate some SERIOUS viewership?
Take a pill, Robert ;)
At least 3/4 of the video views never visited my site because the videos were embedded in some other site - usually without credit or a link. YouTube has two options: View on YouTube only OR allow anyone to embed it in their site. I'd rather work on making good enough content to have people come to my site directly through word-of-mouth.
Just put a tabletblog ident at the beginning so people know where the videos are from.
If I had the time (and I have tested this - it works) I would use YouTubr for teaser versions. Cut them down to 60 seconds. Put logo's on, link to the article in the comments and inthe article, link to the full-fat video.
FOr full-fat, I like what Blip.tv are doing.
I hate youtube sometimes but you have to accept that it can generate traffic and readership when done in the right way.
Steve
ourmedia.org could be an option, too. never compared it to the others mentioned here, seems it shares blip.tvs advantage of being more flexible in terms of file types than youtube.
[x] Downloadable mp4 files are my favorite. And they should come to my device as an video rss feed beacuse i want do download them with the videocenter on my n800 like other normal video podcasts.
[ ] streaming mp4
[ ] other solution
A downloadable version would be great. I usually do most of my video watching when I am outside wlan coverage. While commuting or for example having lunch at a restaurant without any wlan. Thoughtfix inside Videocenter maybe?
I agree with jukey
My host has a tool that lets you upload and encode video in a variety of sizes and spits out the file and the embed code for you. Of course, that brings up potential bandwidth issues... IM me sometime if you're interested and we can hash out the numbers.
I'd go with blip.tv. Amongst other things, they provide different forms of the video to satisfy most peoples' needs, their terms of service are much better and any videocasting software that can handle RSS feeds will also be able to enjoy your videos including Miro.
I vote for a downloadable .mp4.
I would definitely prefer a VideoPodcast type (RSS+MP4 Download). Than put it on ITunes, this will probably generate enough Traffic through all the popular portals.
I know some people hate it, but if you're serious about stopping content theft then you have to watermark your videos prominently enough so that everyone can see where it really comes from.
If no one stole videos or images I'd stop watermarking immediately, but unfortunately the internet seems to be inhabited by large numbers of people who will use anything without crediting it, or even take credit for it themselves.
Your videos will end up on YouTube if you don't put them there, so it's better to put them on your channel to build your identity. I personally like blip.tv and it satisfies your streaming/downloadable mp4 requirements.
Definitely work on adding more identity to your videos: intros, site logos, watermarks, urls, etc. so that people will begin to associate you with your website.
I'd vote for NO video - videos are stupid...
Downloadable MP4 would be great. Especially if it was on an RSS/XML feed so it could be picked up with video aggregators such as Miro (and Nokia's own affair).
You might also want to check out Viddler (www.viddler.com, and also their blog at blog.viddler.com) - They're doing interesting things with tying video clips to blog posts. For a good overview, listen to this week's Net @ Nite podcast with Leo Laporte and Amber Macarthur.
Streaming would be nice. But a method that would easily allow me to view your videos on my Nokia N810 is preferred.
By the way thanks for making the videos. They got some really great content and are VERY helpful to me.
I wouldn't let YouTube get you down. Clearly you're doing something right and perhaps at some point they'll come to you. I found your site and your videos are the ones that convinced me to pick up an N810. :)
I like the blip.tv + youTube preview idea. blip.tv also allows users to download the original version so they could do your mp4 hosting for you.
