Maemo has taken on a totally different direction with the recent release. What started as a hacker-friendly, reasonably priced mobile computer has grown into a high-performance, luxury phone. Maemo tablets have gone from "having no competition in the class" to "taking on the big smartphone market." The Maemo team is proud of what they have created and they should be. From what I have seen and read, the N900 looks like a fantastic phone.
With that, I am retiring from TabletBlog.com. I don't have the time, energy, or money to keep up with the world of luxury smartphone competition. I am seeking new ownership for the TabletBlog.com domain name and will find some way to archive and mirror the content as it is under the Creative Commons Attribution License.

Dan,
I want to thank you for all if your contributions to the Maemo and Internet Tablet communities.
You were the one who got me interested in tablets with the video of the n800 running the map and CarMan apps in your car. Since then, I have purchased an n800 and an n810 and even authored a few apps.
TabletBlog will never be the same without you.
I wish you the best.
Cheers!
Hi,
Don't forget that your domain could be very valuable if Apple releases its "iTablet".
Maybe "Nokia Tablet" blog could become "Apple Tablet" blog someday.
hey ThoughtFix,
why not just keep it until when you finally get to do it again? or seek a moderator to continue on it? it is such a waste to loose it...
too bad i cannot commit to it, since i don't have the time to maintain it with good contents... else i would love to continue the tablet luv...
Dan, you're wrong. The N900 isn't a fancy smartphone.
I wish you had at least applied for sponsorship to the Summit. You probably would have gotten it, and you would have gotten an N900 of your own, and you would have seen just how much the N900 is the direct descendent of the tablets; it is more a tablet with a phone. It certainly doesn't feel like a smartphone.
Today I used it mainly as a good tourist camera, with a lot of IMing to friends with Google Talk wile walking down the street. Yes, I used it as a phone; a Skype phone over cheap Euro 3G.
Now I'm using it to read Twitter and comment on your blog.
Apparently my room mate, Tim, is doing the same thing... ;-)
Hey, we sure missed you at the Summit this year... Sorry to see you go when there are a lot of really good things to come!
Thank you for TabletBlog. It was fun.
Dan,
For a long time, the 770 and the N800 supplied the momentum for the inexpensive Linux tablet. But nowadays that need is met by sub-$100 netbooks.
So I find I'm not as unhappy with the changed rationale for the maemo tablets as I expected to be.
My own interests and needs have changed too during this time; I do find the N900 remarkable but not in the ways it was in 2005.
I'll miss your videos and your particular take on things, but I applaud your choice to pass the baton to the next enthusiast instead of retiring tabletblog.
And I expect the same interests that brought both you and me to the 770 initially will lead our paths to cross again many times in the future.
Good luck!

Daniel,
Sorry if I am a little unforgiving by your attitude, but this was all planned years ago as the evolution of this device. When it comes to price, the price is not at all out of line for the features of the device. If I added up my cell phone, N810, and camera all together , they would be more than the $559 for the device. The N900 is only 50% more than the N810. Blogging about the "underappreciated" N770/800/810 and rooting for the underdog has some personal gratification, but the whole reason you blogged about this platform is because you liked and believed in it. I sure hope that you still do. To me, the purpose of your blog was to educate new users and promote a powerful and little understood platform. That necessity is still there, as there is a lot more capability for this platform, and will have a whole new round of users. Perhaps you think that there will be huge press around this platform and think that your blog will be lost in the crowd. No idea. Sorry to say, but I don't agree with any of your reasons for retiring from TabletBlog. Thank you for all your work over these years. Take care.
Dan,
thanks. I know how much effort goes into keeping a website up (I've tried and had very limited success with my zaurus site), so I can appreciate your efforts.
If nothing else, perhaps let other people take it over - appoint some guests admins etc - to keep it running - it's a good resource and a nice focus.
regards
Paul
Thoughtfix, Thank you for maintaining your blog over the years. I started reading when I got my 770 and I continue to this day to watch the blog in my rss reader even while the 770 collects dust on the shelf. I hope that you leave the blog up until a new maintainer can take it over.
Good luck on your future pursuits.

Just had to say thanks for having a presence and voice about internet tablets. Your videos definitely helped me decided on buying an N800 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcrHYesVbyw

Dan,
I really enjoyed reading this blog and ultramobilegeek.com and I'm sad to see these blogs being retired. Good luck in your future pursuits, and if you start another blog, I'll look forward to reading it.
Thanks!
