Note to you Linux users like myself, both applications are available for Linux and are GPL. Although I have not tried them yet I would think you can do the same thing with dvd::rip and transcode. for those that do not know transcode is a command line video encoder and dvd::rip is a gui for transcode, however it is designed to rip a dvd and not simply re-encode a existing video file. Try using Fair Use Wizard, then use Media Converter to format the .avi. that's what I used instead of HandBrake and it works fine with my DVDs. Just converted the Matrix Trilogy and got the first one through Media Converter with no problems.

When I tried this, Handbrake refused to access the DVD due to the copy protection. What program are you using to decrypt the disk so Handbrake can rip it?

i may be missing something, but why not create a preset in HandBrake and rip/encode in one step?'Obviously, if you want the DVD in a high quality format, and in an N800 format, you'll have to do it twice, but just using one app seems easier then using two (especially when they can't be pipelined easily... though maybe the second app has a good AppleScript dictionary).
